Esser is a German fire alarm brand with a long history and part of the Honeywell group. Esser systems are valued for their reliability, well-designed addressable loop and configuration flexibility. We work with them as certified Esser engineers with an authorization letter from the manufacturer. Below is an overview of the main components.
Two panel platforms
IQ8Control
IQ8Control is a proven family of addressable fire alarm control panels. The panels work with the esserbus addressable loop, can be networked and suit sites of different sizes. A large number of systems have been built on this platform, so their maintenance, expansion and upgrades are a live issue for many clients.
FlexES Control
FlexES Control is a new-generation modular platform. It is designed for large and complex sites: the panel is expanded with modules and supports panel networks and a high level of redundancy. It is a good choice for new large sites and for developing systems in stages.
We select the specific platform for the task: site size, number of points, redundancy requirements and expansion plans.
esserbus addressable loop
esserbus addressable loops connect to the panel and carry detectors, manual call points, sounders and input/output modules. The loops are built as rings with isolators, so an open circuit or short on one section does not take down the whole line.
During design it is important to calculate the loop load, cable length and cross-section, and the number of devices on the loop and their distribution correctly, leaving spare capacity for future expansion.
IQ8Quad detectors
IQ8Quad multi-criteria detectors combine several sensors and analysis algorithms to detect different types of fire quickly while ignoring deceptive phenomena. Some models have built-in sounders and beacons or voice messages, which reduces the number of ceiling devices and simplifies installation.
Programming in tools8000
Esser systems are configured in the proprietary tools8000 software: device addresses and texts, groups and zones, control logic and the panel network. The quality of programming determines how clear the messages are for staff and whether control scenarios for building systems work correctly.
Voice alarm and visualization
The Esser ecosystem includes VARIODYN voice alarm systems and event visualization tools for the operator workstation. Integrating the fire alarm with voice alarm lets you broadcast messages to exactly the zones required by the evacuation scenario.
What to watch for
- Spare capacity. Reserve free addresses on the loops and space in the panel for future layout changes.
- Documentation. The client must hold the configuration file and as-built documentation; otherwise maintenance turns into a guessing game.
- Compatibility. When expanding an existing system, check that new devices are compatible with the panel version.
- Qualification. Configuration should be done by a certified Esser engineer with access to the software and manufacturer support.
